 What is the City Bowl?
SUBURBS:
Devils Peak - Gardens - Higgovale - Highlands Estate - Oranjezicht - Tamboerskloof - Vredehoek - Zonnebloem
The above suburbs make up what we call the "City Bowl". The bowl is formed in the natural ampitheatre created by the famous Table Mountain to the back (south), the mountain ranges "Signal Hill" and "Lions Head" to the West and "Devils Peak" to the East. These suburbs surround Cape Town City Centre, The Waterfront and the part of the Atlantic Ocean, we call "Table Bay".
Being so close to where the Dutch settlers first landed, this area is seeped in History with many Victorian, Cape Dutch and Edwardian properties. The Malay Quarter is picturesque with its multi-coloured cottages.
There is also stunning modern architecture higher on the slopes with panoramic views. The City Centre itself has undergone a metamorphous with many office blocks being converted to modern loft-style living. A number of Cecile Rhodes designed buildings, adjoining the Company Gardens, are currently being developed into apartments, a boutique hotel, a winery and exclusive boutiques. So the City Centre is no longer the Central Business District, but also a vibey and exciting place to live.
